Burton Chenet

A painter and friend was killed recently Burton Chenet...that really affected me.

He left us for another dimension. I am so angry at our unconsciousness.He was a drawing teacher at the only art school we have.

Art and culture are the only things that we have to sell to the world...and we kill our artist...What a shame!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you about the gallery.

I started working at the gallery festival arts since after my first individual exhibit in 2010.

It all started when I brought my paint to fix a painting...and I just stayed to paint and naturally talk to the visitors and clients and I sold paintings...hahahah.

I hang painting, which I like doing very much....I get to choose what I want to hang and we try to be fair and have at least one painting of the 220 artists of the gallery. I’m the last recruit number 220... Funny the number of paintings of one artist depends mostly on the size.

I also do a rotation every once in a while to give other pieces a chance and to get new inspirations or ideas. There’s only one room where we rarely touch anything...the masters room…mostly dead famous artists, like Bernard Sejourne, Lazard, Cedor.....

It's incredible how I always find something new in the gallery, a model when I’m working on a new theme.

I always say a painting sells itself and I have nothing to do with it...a visitor asked me once, how come I wasn't trying to make him buy something and I told him that he had to fall in love with art just like a woman because he would have to live with it even in the bad days. He was really surprised of my answer...

There are people who buy art just for the name…like an investment...I think that’s ridiculous you should buy what you like...sometimes they don’t even choose and they call and say to send them a "somebody" and they choose by price. What if they don’t like the painting?

I have so many paintings that I love in the gallery and if they sell I will literally cry...

I am so lucky; I get to know the artwork of my country and the artist behind them.

They are becoming my friends. After each exhibition I gain new artist friends like Rachel Scott, Dominique Ambroise, Gregory Vorbe, the last one Klebert Obas. They are always teaching me something new…and since I have all my materials there…I get to work with them, they show me new techniques and applications....we interact and exchange and learn from each other.

I’ve been trying to get out of this country as long as I can remember to go experience the world and study and live freely.

Nope that didn't happen but now I know I’m in the best school of art and life I could ever be.

The opening was Thursday at 5 pm, I missed it because of the political problems...

I was extremely disappointed; I was sooooo looking forward to meet all those wonderful women whom I admire. Thank god they had a second cocktail Friday.

My proud parents and sister accompanied me to this event.

We were warmly welcomed by Rachel Moscoso that gave us a tour.

I was amazed to discover our museum...how beautiful and well kept it was.

33 women were exhibiting ...from the elders Luce Turnier ,Tamara Baussan... to the youngest, me, Annick Duvivier..

HOW WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!

I still can’t believe it. Plus my paintings were hung between Marithoux Dupoux and Rachel Castera Herter two of my favorite painters.

The exhibit had unbelievable pieces from paintings, drawings to sculptures.

They were well chosen and well arranged...very different styles that showed once again the diversity of our culture and people.

I felt very honored to be part of this show.

I don't know what were the criteria and the requirements of the exhibit, but I noticed that some important women artists were missing like Solange Jolicoeur, Malou Cadet (the only one with the secrets of Tiga's technique Soleil Brulé), Kathy Castera Laguerre, Edelyne Raymond, Yolande Montas...also Vanessa Craan (extraordinary painter from my generation).

There were not that many people Friday…and I was a bit disappointed not to be able to meet all those creative women. I was interviewed about the show by Tele Guinen and TNH...they will play it in the culture segment they have on Monday nights (TNH canal 8).

Great newssss

Ive been invited to be an artist in residence for 3 months in Altos de Chavon in Domincan Republic...im sooo happy but also scared..

I though about it, slept on it, the answer is still no,

I dont think i will go..i dont feel ready yet for this experience.

And when i go i would like to give something to the students...a class or a seminar..i dont feel like i have the level yet to do that...i will get there...give me 5 years...

the other great news:

ive been formaly invited and selected for a group exhibition for woman's day at the only museum in Haiti Mupanah on March 8th.

im so excited.

Its a honor for me to be part of this event as a woman and as an artist...

the 2 pictures are the painting im ganna exhibit ( red orchids 25X25" and Rara 39X47")

BAck from a lonnnng silence

Hi,

3 months of silence,

December nothing special ....i was kinda depressed...heartbroken...i even stopped painting.

I asked myself if i should stay an artist sooo i left for my special place...Chavon...i met wonderfull people...had a great time..spent THE whole january month...had a drawing and painting class, yoga and a week of fun in Santo.

I came back like the course said with my batteries recharged....and ready more than ever to become the artist im meant to be.

i started taking writing classes on saturdays with the Haitian famous writter Gary Victor.

Thankx to Marie-Alice that encouraged me to go take the class...i didnt even know i could write

and i enjoy it...

im also taking painting classes with a well known lansdcape artist who is showing me how to work sky, cloud and sea...

and tomoroww im starting "savoir vivre and protocole" to know which of the 12 forks to use first when ill be invited to the presidents ball in France ,or Spain or why not India.
